Calvin and Mary Smith Brooks are my second great grandparents.  The are buried in the Smith Brooks Family Cemetery along with Mary's parents, Daniel and Mary Smith.  It looks like Mary's tombstone was rescued after being damaged by farming equipment.

The first Brooks reunion of the descendants of William Brooks I was first held at Calvin's home on August 12, 1909.  Calvin was eighty four years old, and died two months later.

Reverend E. M. Brooks wrote History of the Brooks Family of Union County, North Carolina in 1924.  A copy of this history was located in the Brooks file in the Union County Public Library in Monroe, NC.  In this history, Reverend Brooks wrote of this first reunion, and said, Calvin was "the youngest and only grandson living known to the descendants in this country."  Rev. Brooks also wrote Calvin was "hale and hearty, and greatly enjoyed the day."
