Another diversion from relatives.  William Wilson was elected the first Sheriff of the newly formed Union County, NC.  Union was formed from Mecklenburg and Anson Counties in 1842.  An article can be found here regarding an organizational meeting in April 1843, and the election of officers.

Sheriff Wilson died during his first term in office.  He is buried at Tirzah Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, Union County, NC.

Sanders and Ester Baucom are another set of my wife's third great grandparents.  They are buried in the Lewis Williams Cemetery in Union County, NC.

Sanders was a Confederate Soldier in the Civil War.  His service description card lists him as enlisting on Sept 16, 1863 in Union County, NC.  The card describes Sanders as 41 years old with grey eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, and being 5 ft. 9 in. tall.  Sanders was a Private in Company D., McRae's Battalion, NC.  He was later transferred to 1 Regiment NC Cavalry.
